Work Packages

The work structure is based on seven work packages, starting with a definition of requirements and selection of materials towards self-healing technologies (encapsulation and reversible polymers), testing and evaluation. Five work packages relate to the technical aspects of the project, whilst the sixth deals with coordination and managerial issues and seventh with economical, evaluation, exploitation and dissemination issues.

WP1 is devoted to prepare the R&D strategy to translate composite self-healing repair concept to composite aerostructures. A preliminary selection of materials as well as manufacturing processes will be carried out.

WP2 will assess the development of novel chemical routes involved in the field of encapsulation and self-healing. The self-healing capsules developed here will constitute the basis for further incorporation into composite components. Two main approaches will be considered:

    • Nano/microcapsules strategy
    • Hollow fibres strategy

WP4 will be focused on the integration of self-healing technologies in aeronautical composite production routes. The work envisioned in this workpackage will be performed in parallel with WP2 and WP3 starting at M9 in order to make better use of the outputs generated by WP2 and WP3.

WP5 will be focused on moving the R&D developments to possible aircraft applications by identifying possible scenarios for aeronautical self-repair composite structures. For that small scale validation a platform will be designed and manufactured. Moreover, this self-repair platform will be tested and evaluated.

WP6 involves all aspects of the management and coordination of the project work including communication with the Commission, production of periodic reports, preparation of Consortium Agreement, development of the Quality Assurance Plan, legal and financial activities and coordination of all technical work.
